Yellow Tyrannulet
Scientific Name: Capsiempis flaveola
Small flycatcher, bright yellow overall with two yellow wingbars, a dark line through the eye, and a short yellow eyebrow. Rather long tail. Sexes alike. Brighter yellow than most other tyrannulets. Found in shrubby second growth with some trees, sometimes associated with stands of tall bamboo. Usually in pairs. Widespread through much of South America. Listen for its spritely chattery song.
It is an active and restless bird, often flicking its tail and making short sallies to catch insects midair. Between foraging flights, it frequently returns to low exposed perches, giving observers good views of its vivid coloration. While common across its range, it can be overlooked due to its small size and quick movements, blending into the lively activity of mixed-species flocks in dense vegetation.
