Bronze-tailed Plumeleteer

Scientific Name: Chalybura urochrysia

Medium-sized hummingbird, mostly green. Fairly similar to other hummingbirds including Steely-vented, but note red feet and bronzy rump. Females have whitish underparts and duller pinkish feet. Usually seen singly at flowers in forests or edges.

It is a bold and active feeder, often defending favored patches of flowers from other hummingbirds with rapid chases and sharp, buzzy calls. While most frequently observed at native blossoms, it also visits garden flowers and feeders near forested areas. Its strong, direct flight and strikingly colored feet provide useful field marks for identification, especially when glimpsed in the dappled light of forest edges.
